Everything Gardening as Garden Writers Gather

Garden communicators from across the country will collide in Dallas this weekend for the 62nd annual Garden Writers Association Symposium. The theme for this year’s gathering is “Live Large. Think Big.”

Hey, y’all…I’m headed to Dallas for the GWA Symposium and wanted to let you know what to expect to find here while I’m away.

Last year the get together was in Raleigh, N.C., and I posted pictures from events like the Tweetup at a private garden and other gardens throughout the area.

I plan to do the same thing this year in Dallas. I’m especially looking forward to the tour of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden on Saturday night. I hope you’ll stop by sometime in the afternoon or evening to be part of the world’s largest virtual garden party.

On Saturday there will be 300 to 400 garden writers at the arboretum, all blogging, Tweeting, and Facebooking about the event at the same time. It’s going to be a crazy social media networking event!

Rose Cottage a Warm Welcome to Raleigh

You had to “tweet to meet” for Wednesday evening’s tweet up at Rose Cottage in Raleigh, N.C.

rose-cottage-backyard-blogAfter a long day of travel to the annual Garden Writers Symposium in Raleigh, it was a welcome change of pace to stroll through Raleigh’s historic district to Rose Cottage.

On the way to the GWA twibe tweet up, I passed the state capitol and a historic marker proclaiming that Andrew Johnson, U.S. President from 1865-69, was born in a kitchen only a mile from where I stood.

Rose Cottage is the home owned by Jim and Sharon Bright who opened their garden for the GWA twibe’s tweet up. The event was organized by Helen Yoest (@HelenYoest) and Elizabeth Licata (@GWI).

Proven Winners sponsored the get together and it was an enjoyable way to meet face-to-face with more than 40 personalities I knew only by their twitter tags.
